FAQ
What is a Lateral Flow Test?
The UK government is using Lateral Flow Tests as a quick way to determine if someone is infected with COVID-19, particularly asymptomatic carriers of the virus. The test involves taking a nasal swab and processing it using a small device that comes with the kit. It looks for a specific antigen, which is an indicator of the presence of COVID-19. The short processing time of this test makes it ideally suited for frequent testing, such as for travellers or in workplaces and educational institutes.
Where can I purchase a Rapid Lateral Flow Test?
You can buy the test at (link to be added) and it will get delivered to you within 24 to 48 hours.
How accurate are the results of this Lateral Flow Test?
Public Health England - Porton Down has validated our Lateral Flow Test kit for home use. It has proven to be very accurate at detecting viral loads with high accuracy of results, particularly for asymptomatic carriers of the virus. It has also stood the test of different variants of COVID-19.
How long does it take to get the results of a Lateral Flow Test?
After you insert the swab sample in the extraction fluid, mix it, and put two drops of it onto the test cassette, it will take 20 minutes to get results.
What is the difference between Lateral Flow Tests and PCR tests?
Both the PCR and the lateral flow device (LFD) test require nasal swabs, but the difference is in how the two are processed and the time they take. The PCR test has to be sent to a lab for analysis, and it may take many hours to get the results. The LFD test, on the other hand, is done entirely at home, and the results take no more than 20-30 minutes on average. An LFD test is generally for people who are not showing any symptoms of COVID-19, whereas a PCR is for people with symptoms. Moreover, since the PCR test is more precise and accurate, if you test positive on an LFD test, you also have to take a further PCR test for confirmation.

Should I get tested if I have no symptoms?
Yes, you can be infected by COVID-19 and not have any symptoms. About 1 in 3 people with COVID-19 tend to remain entirely asymptomatic but can infect other people. Therefore, if you are travelling, or believe you have been in contact with someone infected with COVID-19, it is recommended that you get tested.
How long does it take to get the result of a Lateral Flow Test?
Our Lateral Flow Test takes no more than 20 to 30 minutes to provide the results. This is the amount of time it takes after you have taken the swab sample and finished the rest of the process.
How can I perform this test on my own?
The test has simple instructions and can easily be performed at home. It requires taking a nasal swab sample, which is then applied to the lateral flow cassette for results.
Can I take this test if I am travelling to another country?
If you are travelling from the UK to most other countries, you will need to take a PCR test to get a fit to fly certificate. Currently, only the following countries are accepting Lateral Flow Tests (rapid antigen tests) for incoming travellers:
United Kingdom
Italy
France
Germany
Portugal
Greece
The above list is valid at the time this was written. However, countries can change their rules for COVID-19 testing at any moment, so check the rules from the official government sources before travelling.
I tested positive on a Lateral Flow Test. What now?
If you get a positive result on a Lateral Flow Test, you are required to self isolate at once. You will then need to take a mandatory PCR test for confirmation within 48 hours. You can get this test by ordering a PCR home test kit from IQ Doctor.
What does it mean if my test result is \void\?
You will get a \void\ result if your swab sample comes into contact with anything other than the inside of your nose. It will be contaminated and cannot be used to test for COVID-19. In case of a void result, you will need to retake a swab sample with a new swab fabric.
