What is Orajel Mouth Gel?
Orajel Mouth Gel is a topical gel used for short-term relief of pain and tenderness in the mouth. It contains benzocaine 10% w/w, a local anaesthetic that works by numbing the affected area to reduce discomfort.
It is used to temporarily reduce pain caused by:
- Mouth ulcers
- Discomfort from wearing dentures
Who is Orajel Mouth Gel suitable for?
This product is available without a prescription. If you are unsure, speak to a pharmacist.
Suitable for:
- Adults
- Children aged 12 years and over
Not suitable for:
- Children under 12 years
- Anyone allergic to benzocaine or any of the ingredients
- Anyone with a history of methaemoglobinaemia
- Anyone taking sulphonamide antibiotics (e.g., co-trimoxazole)

How to use Orajel Mouth Gel
Use exactly as directed on the label or as advised by your pharmacist.
Typical use
- Clean and dry the affected area inside the mouth
- Using a clean finger, apply an amount of gel about the size of a green pea to the sore area
- Use up to 4 times a day
- Do not use continuously and do not use for more than 4 days at a time
- Avoid hot drinks whilst using this gel
If symptoms worsen or do not improve, speak to a doctor or dentist.
If you use more than you should, seek medical advice immediately and take the tube/pack with you.
How to store Orajel Mouth Gel
- Keep out of the reach and sight of children
- Do not use if the tube or pack is damaged
- Do not use after the expiry date on the packaging
