Vitamin D

The primary source of where we get our vitamin D is from direct sunlight. However, good sources of vitamin D can also come from foods we consume such as fish (salmon, sardines, herring etc), red meat, egg yolks and other foods with high levels of vitamin D. With enough intake of vitamin D our body is able to absorb calcium in order to support a healthy bone growth.

Vitamin D makes certain functions in our body are performing properly such as:

  • The growth and development of healthy bones and teeth

  • Our Immune and nervous system health

  • Regulating insulin levels

  • The functions of our lungs and cardiovascular health

A lack of vitamin D can lead to a risk of developing health problems:

  • Heart disease

  • Diabetes

  • High blood pressure

  • Infections

  • Lack of bone density, which can lead to osteoporosis and fractures.

Therefore making sure you get enough sunlight and consuming enough vitamin D in your meals are critical.

Vitamin D Test

With a vitamin D test, the lab will be able to measure the level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in your blood to analyse if you are vitamin D deficient. The test provides 99% accuracy and is a quick and smooth process of a finger prick test that can be done at home and easily sent off to the lab for results.
