With an increase in cases of Strep A around the country it is vital we are all vigilant of the symptoms either we ourselves, or our loved ones could be affected with.
What is Strep A
Strep A also known as Streptococcus Pyogenes (group A strep) is a bacteria commonly found on the skin or in the throat and can sometimes cause an infection. These infections can vary in severity and can sometimes be very dangerous, so it's important to monitor the symptoms that can arise when dealing with the infection.
Symptoms of Strep A
The common symptoms experienced with a Strep A infection include:
- A rash that feels rough to the touch, like sandpaper, (scarlet fever)
- Impetigo, a form of sores and scabs often found around the mouth and nose
- Swelling, pain and discomfort
- Flu like symptoms including, increased temperature, generalized aches and pains and swollen glands
- Nausea
- Vomiting
Test kit
With new and innovative technology, we can now provide a home test kit that can help you determine whether you or your child is currently suffering from a Strep A infection. Simply take a sample with the throat swab provided, place it in with the provided solution before transferring it on to the test cassette, add a few drops of the sample solution to the cassette provided and wait up to 5 minutes to view your results.
