What is Acne?
Acne is a skin condition that can affect people of varying ages causing spots including cysts, nodules, pustules, papules, whiteheads, and blackheads along with oily skin, often skin can present as hot to the touch and can be quite painful. Most commonly acne will develop on the face, back and chest however other areas of the body can be affected.
What is Duac?
Duac is a gel-based treatment for acne that aims to reduce the production of both blackheads and whitehead, along with reducing the bacteria that causes acne, the primary ingredients are clindamycin an antibiotic that helps reduce the acne causing bacteria, and benzyl peroxide an antibacterial which not only combats the bacteria but also helps reduce the present blackheads and white heads, benzyl peroxide is also an keratolytic agent- meaning it causes peeling.
How to apply Duac?
Gently cleanse the skin and pat dry before applying a thin layer of the gel to the affected area, allow for the gel to dry on the skin. Do not wash off. Ensure you avoid contact with eyes, lips, nostrils and mouth, wash your hands after each application.
How long does it take for Duac to work?
Usually results can be seen within 2-6 weeks of use, however significant benefit is noted at around 8-12 weeks of use, please note this medication should not be used for longer than 12 weeks.
How to store duac?
Duac does not need to be stored in the fridge however it should be kept at temperatures below 25degree Celsius. Discard after 2 months.
Does Duac have any side effects?
Common side effects of using Duac include peeling, dry skin, itching and redness, however this should reduce over time. Duac also causes excess sensitivity to the sun, so lengthy exposure should be limited whilst using this medication.
